SPOTLIGHT ON THIS 5TH EDITION:
THE FIAPmq 2026

For the first time, an open call for submissions has been launched. Priority will be given to collaborative perspectives between artists, art critics, and curators. This will be an intergenerational festival that will give rise to a temporary, self-governing community throughout its duration. The focus will be on rituals, akin to an artistic retreat. There will be site-specific performances and performances in the city (at designated locations).

For the 2026 edition, FIAP Martinique wishes to examine contemporary issues from the Caribbean as a critical prism.

Annabel Guérédrat

She is a choreographer, dancer, performer, and certified Body-Mind Centering® practitioner who has directed the company Artincidence since 2003. Her work explores the political body of Black Caribbean women through figures of contemporary witches, radical ecofeminism, Afro-diasporic spiritualities, and speculative forms of cyber‑maternity. Through her avatar Mami Sargassa, she develops ritualized performances around sargassum seaweed, questioning the toxic legacies of colonial habitation. Co‑founder of FIAP Martinique in 2017 and of an outdoor performance art laboratory with Henri Tauliaut, she creates engaged performative forms that link body, memory, territory, and postcolonial struggles.

Henri Tauliaut

For over twenty years, his work has explored the intersections of art, science, digital media, and performance. In 2019, he completed a PhD on biological and digital arts in relation to living systems in Caribbean and American contemporary art. Exhibiting across the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, he represented Guadeloupe and France at the 12th Havana Biennial (2015) with Jungle Sphere 3.0. Since 2015, he has co-directed a performance and land art laboratory in Martinique and has co-organized FIAP Martinique since 2017. His works include Aqua, Iguana, Afro-Punk, and Techno-Shaman.

FREKWÉNCIA

Frekwéncia (b. 1997, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a multimedia artist whose practice is rooted in àṣẹ, the Yoruba concept of vital force. Through performance, sound art, writing, sculpture, and installation, she explores Afro-diasporic memory, fugitive listening, and the interplay between visible and invisible materialities. Her work develops a vibrational and haptic poetics, creating spaces of suspension and communion where sound, gesture, and matter converge. The body becomes a site of transmission, connecting the living with ancestral presences while fostering collective resonance, shared memory, and relational forms of being.

Mario Barrantes Espinoza

Mario Barrantes Espinoza is a Costa Rican–Nicaraguan artist trained in Costa Rica and a graduate of P.A.R.T.S., Belgium (2016, 2018). His practice brings together body, voice, sound, and text through performances presented internationally. Works including El cantar del playo (2022, Roel Verniers Prize 2020) and FLESH CAN’T CAN’T NOT’T ‘TIS FLESH H… (2024, selected for Het Theaterfestival 2025) explore queer narratives and Global South migrations. His current project, Maxhete, examines myth-making in Central America while extending his work into nightlife, teaching, and mentoring.

Aez Pinay

A.E.Z Pinay (he/they) is a queer Afro-European artist, videographer, and performer. His work and research revolve around the Black ethos in France and the Afro-diasporic experience in its poetic, political, and spiritual expression. Mourning, melancholy, and the absurd are recurring themes in his creations. Another aspect of his practice involves cultivating his capacity to exist outside of market values: resting, doing nothing, lying in the grass, praying, lamenting, crying, observing the living, and opening himself to the possibilities of creating the world differently. He currently studies and works in Amsterdam.

Helio

Helio Volana’s transdisciplinary practice explores memory and spirituality through queer and decolonial perspectives. Blurring installation, performance, and sound, they create sanctuaries of ritual and intimate prayer. A graduate of the Brussels School of Fine Arts, they received the FoRTE (Île-de-France Region) and Mira (French Institute) grants in 2024. Their solo exhibition, Lamba, la mémoire habite le silence (Lamba, Memory Inhabits Silence), followed a residency at Fondation H and is presented at La Teinturerie, Antananarivo. Volana lives and works between Paris and Antananarivo.

David Démétrius

David Démétrius is a curator and art critic from Guadeloupe, born in 1996, whose work focuses on Caribbean art scenes and their diasporas, and their relationship with the rest of the world. Trained in art history and anthropology, he explores themes of silence, memory, and the temporalities of the body. Since 2021, he has been involved in numerous curatorial projects and collaborations both in the Caribbean and beyond, while also writing for several journals and publishing projects.

David Tenorio Gonzalez

David Tenorio Gonzalez is a curator and art critic. His work explores the social and political issues of contemporary art, with a particular focus on emerging voices. Through his exhibitions and writings, he develops a critical approach that fosters dialogue between artists, audiences, and institutions.

Seloua Luste Boulbina

Seloua Luste Boulbina is a philosopher, writer, curator, and researcher. Her work focuses on postcolonial thought, cultural heritage, and questions of identity, examining the links between history, language, and power. As a curator, she designs exhibitions that extend her theoretical research, highlighting often marginalized artists and narratives. Her critical approach aims to open new spaces for reflection and dialogue around the contemporary challenges of decolonizing knowledge and artistic practices.
